Scientist (Ag. Entomology)

It is Agricultural Research Service (ARS) recruited by Agricultural Scientific Recruitment Board under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India.

 

2.      NATURE OF DUTIES:

The nature of duties is mainly in the area of basic and applied research on identification and management of insect pests of arid fruits and vegetables according to the mandate of institute/ ICAR; undertaking basic and strategic studies for developing insect pests management technologies to enhance productivity and utilization of arid horticultural crops. The duties include identification of research problem and handling protects. The following projects are associated as either PI/ Co-PI.

3.      PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR (PI):

1.      Survey of insect-pests, their natural enemies and pest management strategies for cucurbits in arid region of Rajasthan.

2.      Biology and management strategies for major insect pests of fruit crops in hot-arid region with special reference to ber, bael, datepalm and lasora.

4.      CO- PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR (Co-PI):

1.      Genetic improvement of ridge gourd (Luffa acutangula) under arid environment.

2.      Introduction, collection, characterization, conservation and evolution of cucurbitaceous crops (muskmelon, watermelon, long melon and sponge gourd) under arid conditions

3.      Population dynamics of major insect pests on arid fruits and vegetables (Completed).

4.      Molecular characterization of begomo virus affecting chilli in hot arid region (Completed).

6.    AWARDS AND/OR OTHER RECOGNITIONS RECEIVED:

1.    Awarded Rastriya Gaurava Award 2012 for the best research outstanding in agriculture by IIFS, New Delhi dated 04, May, 2012.

2.    Awarded The Best Citizens of India Award 2012 for the best research publication in agriculture by International Publishing House, New Delhi.

3.    Awarded for the best poster presentation on “Incidence of major pests in Bael, Aegle marmelos as influenced by abiotic factors in arid region of Rajasthan” on the occasion of National Seminar on ‘Precision Farming in Horticulture’ organized by College of Horticulture & Forestry, Jhalarapatan, Jhalawar– 326 023 (Rajasthan) during 28-29, December, 2010.

4.    Awarded for recognition of his active role in institution building activity by translating the FOCARS reading material in hindi during 89th foundation course for agricultural research service organized at National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad.

8.    RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:

Total Research Experience: 10 years (2004 to 2013)

1.      During M. Sc. programme one year research experience and two year research experience during Ph. D. programme.

2.      Senior Research Fellow in “Network Project on Insect Biosystematics funded by ICAR” from August, 2007 to September, 2008 at Dept. of Entomology, RCA, Udaipur.

3.      Research Associate under the scheme Technology Mission on Cotton MM-I 3.2 entitled “Development and validation of IPM/IRM strategies for Bt-cotton under different ecosystem”, from September, 2008 to November, 2009 at CICR, Regional Station, Sirsa, Haryanna.

4.      I have joined as Scientist in Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) from December 15, 2009 to continue.

  1. TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED:
  1. New sources of resistance against fruit fly pest in muskmelon have been identified. Like AHMM/BR-1, RM-50 and AHMM/BR-8 were the most resistant; MHY-5, Durgapura Madhu and Pusa Sarabati were moderately resistant; AHMM/BR-13, Pusa Madhuras and Arka Jeet were susceptible whereas Arka Rajhans and GMM-3 were the highly susceptible genotypes (Published in journal ‘Phytoparasitica, Netherlands).
  2. First record of the coreid bug, Homoeocerus variabilis Dallas: a new pest of khejri [Prosopis cineraria (l) Druce] in arid region of Rajasthan (Published in journal ‘Florida Entomologist’, USA).

3.      Development of pictorial key and systematic account of the short horned grasshopper (Orthoptera: Pyrgomorphidae) in south western Rajasthan (Published in ‘Journal of Insect Science’, PAU, Ludhiana)

  1. First record of parasitoid, Brachymeria albicrus (Klug) on ker pioneer butterfly, Anaphaeis aurota Fabricius in arid region of Rajasthan (Published in ‘Journal of Biological Control’, NBAII, Bangalore).
  2. First record of the tingid bug, Dictyla cheriani (Drake) on Indian cherry, Cordia  myxa L. in arid region of Rajasthan (Published in Indian Journal of Agricultural Science, New Delhi).

6.      First record of the tetrigid, Scelimena harpago Serville (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae) from Rajasthan, India (Published in national conference on ‘Plant Protection in Agriculture’ organised by Agriculture Research Station, Durgapura, Jaipur during 2010).

7.      Natural enemies associated with major pests of arid fruits and vegetables has been identified which are helpful in pest management.
